Sinus Lift / Sinus Augmentation
The maxillary sinuses sit above the upper teeth on either side of your nose. For patients who do not have enough bone near the sinus cavity to place dental implants, our doctors can perform a sinus augmentation –also known as a sinus lift -to correct this problem by raising the sinus floor and developing bone for the placement of dental implants. There are different methods that can be used depending on how much additional space needs to be created.
If enough bone between the upper jaw ridge and the bottom of the sinus is available to stabilize the implant well, an implant can sometimes be placed at the same time as the sinus lift. If not enough bone is available, the sinus augmentation will have to be completed first and allowed to heal for several months before an implant can be placed.
